Raku

Raku- Is a Japanese technique of firing ceramics.
After the pots are bisque fired I glaze them in oxides to obtain a matt lustre effect.
They are then placed in a kiln and taken up to about 1000 degrees, then rolled in sawdust/straw/newspaper etc. Then finally put into a bin to be smoked.

Fumed copper oxide on Raku vases gives an infinite spectrum of exciting colours and surface qualities.
